Kristin smarts body finally found12/28/2023 The second half followed much of the same script as the first half had, with Wake dominating proceedings and Miami being entirely unable to respond. When the halftime buzzer sounded, the Deacs went into the locker room up one. Wake continued to dominate the game heading into the break, but they couldn’t quite find a goal despite a wealth of chances. Liv Stowell would stick out a boot and get there ahead of Miami keeper Melissa Dagenais, scoring her fifth goal of the year. In the 32nd minute, the Deacs opened the scoring, as Taryn Chance would be sent through down the left flank by Kristin Johsnon and would then send it into the box. Wake peppered the ‘Canes goal early, and their backline and press were very effective at keeping Miami in check. The Deacs got the result they needed, and in dominant fashion, on Sunday against Miami. With the result, the Deacs moved to 0-2 against teams currently in the United Soccer Coaches poll, and were in definite need of a win on Sunday. The Deacs had a spirited response after the early goals, and Emily Morris is definitely deserving of recognition for an incredible performance, but the player of the game in this one for me was Kat Rader, who scored a brace and was a nuisance all game. As for the Deacs, they fell to 2-3 in conference and 8-3-2 overall. A solid defensive performance in the second half, bolstered by a pair of beautiful saves from Jones on Emily Morris, buoyed the Blue Devils and earned them another victory in conference. However, Duke would weather the storm and settle in a bit, keeping the Deacs at bay and getting some chances going forward themselves. Wake seemed to have the better of the play for the remainder of the first half, but the two teams would go into the break with the Blue Devils still up a goal.Ĭoming out of the break, the Deacs had all of the momentum, and looked primed to even the game up. In the 27th minute, the Deacs cut their deficit in half through Giovanna DeMarco, who won the ball from a poor pass by Duke keeper Ruthie Jones, stride into the Duke penalty area, and strike it past Jones at the near post. Wake began to grow into the game after the second goal, weathering Duke’s pressure after struggling against it early. This game felt much like the game the two sides played at Spry last season, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Blue Devils after two goals in the first 22 minutes. In the 13th minute, Michelle Cooper got hold of a second ball from a goal kick, sending it over the top to Rader that Kristin Johnson seemed to have covered, but she was stripped by Rader, who would stride into the area and put the ball past Kaitlyn Parks to double Duke’s lead. It was Rader’s sixth goal of the season, and the seventh wasn’t far behind. Rader took a touch and tapped it into the back of the net to give the Blue Devils an early lead. Wake got off to a bad start, though, as in the 3rd minute Maggie Graham found a cutting ball through the Wake backline on the left flank to Olivia Migli, who sent it across to freshman Kat Rader. In the first game of the week, the Deacs had a chance to make a big splash nationally against then No. But before looking ahead at that game, let’s take a look back at this past week’s happenings. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels (11-3, 4-2 ACC). Three of these games will be on the road, and two of those will be against ranked opponents, the first of which will come tonight in Chapel Hill, where the Deacs will face the No. The Deacs are now faced with four critical games in the conference that will determine their conference and, likely, tournament fates. Wake responded to the defeat well, though, returning to Spry for a Sunday matinee against Miami (4-6-2, 1-5 ACC) that they would dominate, earning a 2-0 result that was ultimately flattering to the Hurricanes. 12 Duke Blue Devils (10-3, 5-1 ACC) scored a pair of early goals and survived a spirited Wake response to earn a 2-1 victory against the Deacs. The Deacs’ first game of the week was a Thursday night trip to Durham, where the No. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons women’s soccer team (9-3-2, 3-3 ACC) had another week with mixed results, keeping them at.
